His story

Refusing to let
darkness define him

Manie Blom was born with a genetic condition that caused him to gradually lose his sight between the ages of 7 and 8. Eventually, he was declared legally blind. Despite this, he refused to let his disability define him — instead, he allowed it to fuel his determination to achieve greatness through sport.

About 15 years ago, he was introduced to the world of para athletics and it quickly became his passion and purpose. In 2017, he proudly represented South Africa for the first time at the World Games in London, winning gold in discus F12.

Since then, his focus has shifted to shot put, one of the most competitive and technically demanding events globally. Competing against some of the strongest athletes in the world has driven him to continuously refine his skills and strength across more than a decade of dedication.
