Her story

One encounter
changed everything

Juane le Roux was born with an underdeveloped arm — shortened without a hand. Her journey into para athletics began at a school competition in Naboomspruit when she was about 15 years old. During the discus event, another para-athlete saw her competing and told her she could potentially set a South African or African record.

At that same meet, Simone Kruger and her father noticed Juane throwing the discus. After the event, they approached her and told her she had just broken a South African or African record. They introduced her to the world of para athletics and helped her mother get her signed up for competitions.

Before that day, she had no idea para athletics even existed — or that she could compete at that level. That single encounter changed her life and opened the door to the journey she is on today.
