Her story

Rising through
every challenge

Mandeline Hoffmann is a 22-year-old South African para athlete whose journey begins with a rare genetic condition. At the age of 12, she was diagnosed with EZH2 Overgrowth Syndrome. She has lived with severe scoliosis requiring a rigid back brace for 12 years, bilateral patellar dislocations, and complete loss of function in her right leg above the knee.

Despite these challenges, she discovered her strength and purpose through sport — transforming physical adversity into an opportunity to excel, inspire, and redefine what is possible.

She began her para-athletics journey in 2017, where a passion for discus, shot put, and javelin quickly turned into a pursuit of excellence. Through relentless dedication and skilled coaching, she refined her technique and expanded her potential with each competition — becoming a World Champion at just 15 years old.
